Alberto Letamendi is a painter and sculptor born in 1964 in Ordizia, in the heart of the Spanish Basque Country. Known for his inventive approach and his exploration of universal themes, Letamendi has established himself as an essential figure in contemporary art. His work, which brings together natural materials such as wood, iron dust and pigments, moves freely across the border between tradition and modernity.

An artist drawn to nature and history

Alberto Letamendi draws his inspiration from the wild landscapes of his native region and from the cultural heritage of the Basque Country. Through his works he addresses collective memory, human duality and hope. His emblematic series “Itxaropena” (Hope) depicts scenes of traditional life, foregrounding figures in Basque dress who stand for mutual aid and resilience.
