The career,

Eric Alfaro, born in Cuba in 1991, graduated from the Raúl Martínez Academy of Fine Arts. Now based in the United States, he has established himself internationally through an immediately recognisable pictorial language in which memory, emotion and nature answer one another. His artworks stand on the border between abstraction and figuration.
Matter before image
Alfaro paints with the knife. Oil and acrylic build up into impasto, and the canvas takes on a relief that photography renders only imperfectly. Up close, the gesture can be read: the track of the blade, the colour pushed forward, the light caught on the ridges. From a distance, the image reassembles itself. It is this double reading that gives his artworks their value.
A dialogue between Impressionism and Asia
His ponds and blossoms summon Monet without quoting him, and meet a sensibility drawn from Asian prints: the empty space, the tight framing, the flower caught at the moment of its decline. This encounter between two far-removed traditions produces on the canvas a synergy collectors recognise at once.
International recognition
His artworks have been shown at the Copperfest Arts Festival in North Miami, at the Paratissima contemporary art fair in Turin, and at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami. They are held in private collections in the United States, Canada, Italy and France, as well as in institutional collections — the Copperbridge Art Foundation and the Lincoln Center Orchestra in New York.
A published body of work
His work has been featured in CdeCuba Art Magazine (issue 25, 2018), and a monograph, Eric Alfaro Selected Artworks, traces his career from its beginnings through 2018. He has also completed several mural commissions for the city of Miami.
