Gil
Bruvel
The OA Fine Art galleries present in Paris the original sculptures of Gil Bruvel. Born in Sydney, trained in France by a cabinetmaker father, now based in Austin: he stacks thousands of wooden sticks, or casts stainless steel, until the material takes on the movement of a face or a current. Unique pieces, available in the gallery.

Wooden sticks,
a face
The masks and the Cubic pieces are born of a stack: thousands of wooden sticks assembled one by one, then painted, whose cut ends compose the relief. Seen head on, the form reads; from the side, it breaks into strata. That shift of the gaze is what makes the work.
The stainless steel pieces belong to another craft: the model is cast, then the surface is polished until light travels across it instead of settling on it. Each piece is unique, signed, accompanied by its certificate of authenticity.
